Wildlife:
Situated in the biodiversity-rich Albertine Rift, Rwanda boasts a diverse array of wildlife. Alongside gorillas and chimpanzees, visitors can encounter various primates such as Ruwenzori colobus monkeys and golden monkeys. Boat excursions offer glimpses of hippos and crocodiles, while Akagera’s savannah plains are home to giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, and defassa waterbucks. Lions are also present in the vicinity.

Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park is a highlight for most visitors interested in wildlife. Other captivating trekking options include observing golden monkeys within the same park, as well as encountering chimpanzees and Ruwenzori colobus monkeys in Nyungwe. For those seeking less strenuous safari activities, game drives, night drives, and boat trips are available in Akagera. Rwanda welcomes visitors year-round, although April, the wettest month, is best avoided due to high rainfall. Slippery trails during this period can make gorilla trekking more challenging. Additionally, rain may disrupt the unique gorilla trekking experience, which is both time-constrained and exceptionally special. Overall, the optimal time to explore the country is from June to September, offering a higher likelihood of sunny weather and enhanced wildlife sightings.
